CEDAR AUDIO STUDIO BUNDLE FOR PRO TOOLS

Cedar's full suite of AAX processors - DNS One, Declip, Debuzz and Adaptive Limiter

Cedar DNS One
Noise is all around us: traffic, aircraft, the noise inside vehicles, air conditioning, wind, rain and other water noises, excessive reverberation, even the noise from domestic appliances. So noise suppression techniques are needed to clean up noisy dialogue for fi lm production, suppress ambient noise for live TV and radio broadcasting, revitalize sound effects libraries, and enhance speech for forensic audio investigations.

The industry standard
DNS splits the noisy signal into a large number of well-defined bands, and suppresses the noise independently in each. The innovative design of this filter bank allows you to control DNS using relatively few controls, making it simple and quick to use in all situations. If you work with dialogue, the speed, flexibility, and ease of use of DNS provides solutions to audio problems that you could not previously solve. And, in the audio forensic laboratory, DNS is ideal for removing motor noise from small covert recorders, for eliminating electrical interference, and for helping to clean up recordings suffering from unfavorable acoustics and poor microphone locations.

Cedar Dehiss 3
Dehiss-3 is an incarnation of CEDAR’s famous auto-dehiss algorithm that won an EQ Magazine ‘Best Of Show’ Award at the 97th AES Convention. It is optimized for relatively uncolored and consistent hiss, and for broadband noises such as fan noise. Its simple and intuitive interface means that excellent results can be obtained quickly by users with few (or no) advanced audio engineering skills.

Why CEDAR Dehiss?
Traditional noise reduction methods are inadequate. Dual-ended processes require encoding and do nothing to remove noise already present in a signal. Low-pass filters remove as much wanted signal as noise. Dynamic filters pump, round off transients and dull the genuine signal. Gates remove no noise when open. Expanders pump, and multi-band expanders have poor separation filters, leading to loss of high frequencies, loss of ambience, and degradation of hard transients.

CEDAR’s processes do none of these things, giving clean, clear sound with the minimum of unwanted side-effects or artifacts.

Cedar Debuzz 3
The Cambridge Debuzz-3 algorithm provides full-bandwidth processing, removing components across the entire audio spectrum, and is capable of removing all manner of buzzes and hums with fundamental frequencies as high as 500Hz. Compared with earlier algorithms, it offers improved signal modeling and better component tracking. Having locked on to the fundamental, it even has the ability to cope with jittery buzzes. Typically, Debuzz-3 will successfully remove the buzz even if the frequency drifts by as much as 2% at 50Hz at 44.1kHz sample rate.

The module also rescues signal that lies at the same frequencies as the buzz harmonics. It does this by analyzing the dynamics of the signal and buzz, optimally detecting and reducing the buzz with minimal side effects.

Cedar Adaptive Limiter 2
Unlike a traditional limiter or a multi-band device, the Adaptive Limiter 2 employs a unique new algorithm developed by CEDAR. With peak and oversampling modes, it calculates a continually varying EQ profile that constrains the amplitude of the output while retaining the integrity of the input. The result is a signal that sounds louder while remaining much more natural than audio processed using conventional limiters and maximizers.

The way in which the attenuation profile can develop is constrained in two ways - both temporally and spectrally - and the degree to which it can change is now under even greater user control than before. This allows you to optimize the results for every piece of audio processed, whether applying transparent limiting or ‘slamming’ the audio for dramatic loudness maximizing.

Creating coherent compilations
When used with the Batch Processor the Adaptive Limiter 2 will quickly and easily control the dynamics of disparate tracks and allow you to match them into a coherent whole. This is particularly useful when creating compilations from multiple sources.

When you need to control the loudness of your audio, nothing does so with greater integrity nor greater simplicity than CEDAR’s Adaptive Limiter 2.

Cedar Declip
One of the tools most often requested by audio engineers handling damaged material, Declip is a genuine de-clipping algorithm that allows you to identify and remove most instances of clipping in a single real-time pass.

Innovative, and very simple
Using Declip could not be simpler. The analysis window displays the signal in a novel fashion that shows clipping as peaks on one or both sides of the display. You can then isolate the bad audio, and the clipped samples are removed and replaced with good signal generated by the algorithm. With multiple display modes and powerful zooming capabilities, you can always be sure that you are identifying and removing the problem, not the wanted signal.

Analog and digital clipping
If the analysis window displays vertical edges, this demonstrates that the signal has been digitally clipped. If these edges are more rounded, analogue clipping may have occurred. Whatever the source of the problem, the CEDAR algorithm will remove the offending samples and reconstruct the signal.

Two clip removal algorithms
Two processing modes are provided, and these allow you to choose between an algorithm optimized for light clipping, and one optimized for heavier damage. This ensures that you restore the clipped audio without unwanted side-effects.
